"A breathless thriller...a literary meditation clutching a straight razor behind its back. Bold, beautifully written, and surprising.” -Marcus Sakey, bestselling author of The Brilliance Trilogy

Nine years ago, Jack Erikson was deployed to China to protect the United States from a cyberattack. Now, suffering from a drug-induced amnesia, he is unable to recognize his own son. What Jack knows for sure is that an elite group of operators is determined to kill him. What he does not yet remember is that he controls a cyber-weapon powerful enough to return human civilization to the Stone Age. If Jack lives long enough to piece together his mission and his identity, he will be forced to choose between the fate of humankind and that of his own family.

Readers of Cormac McCarthy and Peter Heller will appreciate both the suspense and the Western setting. In his thrilling literary debut, Benjamin Dancer also explores the timeless themes of fatherhood and the fraying fabric of global stability.

Patriarch Run edition by Benjamin Dancer Literature Fiction eBooks

Benjamin Dancer has written a thriller with depth. It not only has shoot outs and other high risk situations, but it explores the complexities of relationships the characters have with others and themselves. I felt like I was in a high speed car chase, only slowing down long enough to witness a crash on the side of the road. Though the story is fast-paced, I slowly gathered the pieces to the puzzle until my brain exploded at the end from the craziness. I recommend reading the interviews at the end to get the complete scope of the story. I was fully invested in each of the characters' stories. Obviously, each character made different choices, but they all had a strength that was admirable. After reading this book, it will make you more aware of your daily choices and how they not only affect you but humanity, too. Read this book if you want a country western version of Bourne Identity, or, read it because you want a great thriller!!!

Patriarch Run edition by Benjamin Dancer Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I loved this book - the characters are great, and it's very well-written. The basic premise scares me to death because it's so likely to happen in real life (I couldn't read it right before bedtime). Everyone should read this book and take heed of the warning!
This is a good read. I would liken it to an Ian Fleming novel. It is very absorbing and a page turner. But I would add that I felt it to be a 'formula book'. There are some ideologies to consider, but the author does not develop these until late into the book and the plot. Also, there were some issues that were not addressed. Without giving the story away, I find it kind of hard to believe that a young man could go about ending the lives of some individuals without feeling any kind of remorse or introspect. It was clear to me that "this story is to be continued."
Billy isn’t ready for his father’s return, nor is his mother Rachel, who’s seeing the local sheriff. But Jack’s back, and even though Jack may not remember much about days gone by or why he’s returned to Patriarch Ranch, Colorado, those who want him dead certainly do. Prepare for body bags galore as one torn and tortured family pits itself against overwhelming military and cartel forces along the far reaches of Patriarch Run.

In PATRIARCH RUN, Benjamin Dancer has hit his stride. This is fast-paced, colorful suspense. Dancer builds believable characters with complex yet pleasing personalities, then he throws them into the fire. PATRIARCH RUN is page-turning pleasure.
Review  PATRIARCH RUN by Benjamin Dancer

PATRIARCH RUN is so engrossing that it kept me hopping with excitement and suspense, without a spare moment. The characters are deliciously delineated, the settings are tautly drawn; and amidst the ever-flying bullets, the action is non-stop, always riveting, and the secrets are continuously covert. A nearly-grown, very intelligent adolescent, his artist mother, and the man who abandoned them nine years ago--a man who listed his career as "a contractor for the United States government"--who now has total amnesia and is the target of both that government and a Mexican Special Ops force a cauldron of forces that need no stirring to result in deadly consequences!
A very good read. Kind of a Bottom-Line-Up-Front narrative style that cuts down on useless filler content. Poignant dialogue. Great premise. I really enjoyed it and look forward to more of this author's work.
I hate these start ratings! I feel like, no matter what there is some good or even great, and some wanting in almost everything I read. So, do you focus on the good to great with 5 stars or focus on the "not quite there" with a lower rating? I guess it's a question of a tipping point in one direction of the other. In the case of Patriarch Run, I tipped in the positive direction. This novel is well written with stark, spare prose evocative of the frantic pace and the harsh but naturally beautiful environment in which it is mainly set. The story is gripping and at times, heart rending. At the same time, we are moved to ask who, if anyone, is right in their view of the world, its problems and the solution. Agree or not, it will make you think about how to solve such world wide problems as inequality, hunger, poverty and injustice. Yes, this is a thriller, perhaps even a techno-thriller but like most good fiction it asks big questions while entertaining you and making you cheer for the characters as they escape seemingly impossible situations. With lots of interesting and unexpected twists, you will not be able to put this book down. Highly recommended with a few minor caveats. There are some lapses of style, almost as if understandably, the author put the work down, picked it up again at another time and a slight change of voice ensued. There are a small number of minor typos, but unlike some self published work this book is well edited. A great read. Since many reviews here contain a synopsis, I will not recount the story here. Just know it's worth your time.
A really suspenseful page-turner that also will make you think about some of the most serious problems faced by humanity. You will be introduced to two crucial issues totally absent from the political scene, even in a presidential election year -- electric grid vulnerability and, of course, Earth's vast overpopulation.
